BJP issues notice to Sakshi Maharaj

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IBNS): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday sent a show cause notice to party MP Sakshi Maharaj for the controversial remarks he has made in recent times, media reports said.

The leader has been directed to give his reply within 10 days.

"The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday issued notice to party MP Sakshi Maharaj and has asked for a reply in 10 days over his 'Hindus should have four kids' remark," CNN-IBN reported.

The BJP earlier distanced itself from Maharaj's remark that Hindu women should produce four children and said it was the leader's personal opinion.

"The statement given by BJP MP Shri Sakshi Maharaj is a personal opinion. The Bharatiya Janata Party believes in good governance and development," BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said in a statement.

"It is requested from all party workers that they concentrate all their efforts in the promotion of all the work being done for public benefit and should distance themselves from unnecessary opinionated statements," he said.

Maharaj has triggered a controversy by saying that Hindu women should give birth to four children.
