However, BJP already has a backup in the constituency as earlier this week as Ramesh Chand Tomar resigned from the Congress to join the party.
Meanwhile, the ruling Congress has filed a petition with the Election Commission (EC) seeking a change in polling date in Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency, said reports on Tuesday.
"The move came after their candidate Ramesh Chand Tomar shifted his allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party after the last date for filing nominations had passed," reported CNN-IBN.
Polling is scheduled to be held in Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency on Apr 10.
