BJP pushed people into poverty: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Mar 18 (IBNS): Senior Congress party leader and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram while addressing the Plenary Session on Sunday said that his party can take the country out of the economic crisis and blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) govt for pushing people into poverty.  

Speaking at the Session, he said, "Only Congress party can take the country out of the economic crisis. Saying this not because of arrogance, but because we have done it before and can do it again."

Chidambaram said the biggest achievement of Dr Manmohan Singh, who was former Prime Minister of India and also former Finance Minister, that 14 crore people were listed out of poverty.

"BJP govt pushed people into poverty. Number of people below poverty line went up. It's the greatest disservice BJP govt did to people of India," said  Chidambaram.

The senior Congress leader said that the party will come back to power again under new leadership.

He also hinted that the party is open to form allies with other political parties to fight the BJP in the 2019 elections.

"Spread the word that a new young dynamic leadership has taken over the Congress party. We will come back to power with friends and allies," the former finance minister said.
