BJP trying to sabotage non-BJP govts: Mallikarjun Kharge

Bengaluru, July 7 (IBNS): Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has accused the BJP of trying to sabotage non-BJP governments.

This comes a day after 14 MLA of the JDS-Congress alliance in Karnataka resigned. Reports said these MLA were flown to Mumbai in a private jet and lodged in a 5 star hotel.

"The BJP is trying to sabotage non-BJP governments. They want to weaken regional parties. This is not right. It hasn't been a year since the Karnataka election. I'm scared, where's democracy in this country? BJP arranged special flights for them," NDTV quoted Kharge as saying.

Karnataka chief minister HD Kumaraswamy is in the US on holiday.

If the resignations are accepted, the ruling alliance will no longer have a majority in the House.

On Saturday, Union minister for fertilizers and senior BJP leader D.V. Sadananda Gowda expressed his surprise over resignation by 14 MLAs of Congress-JDS coalition government in Karnataka and said that it is a good development.

He said that though the the move was delayed for some time and finally shown their anger over the government and came out in a large number. It shows there was a severe divide in both JDS and Congress parties over the government running.

Stating that there was no 'Operation Lotus' by BJP over the resignation of MLAs, he said that if they fall on their own BJP is ready to form the government since they have sufficient numbers in the assembly and run the government with great responsibility, he added.

He said knowing very well that the Congress party has been a sinking ship in the country and there was no scope to continue in the party, hence they have resigned.
