BJP's failure to achieve 370 mark may disappoint share market: Prashant Kishor

Poll strategist Prashant Kishor has said if the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party fails to touch the 370 seats mark then it may disappoint the market.

"When the expectation from a company is very high and they do not meet that despite performing well, the stock market punishes them. From this point of view, if the BJP scores less than 370 seats, this may become a talking point. The markets too may reflect this," he told NDTV.

"In the last three-four months, the discussion has centred around '370' and '400 paar'. Consider it a BJP strategy or Opposition's weakness, but the BJP has entirely shifted the goalpost from 272 to 370. This has benefitted the BJP. Now, no one is saying Modi ji will lose, they are saying they may not get 370 seats," he told the Indian news channel.

272 in the halfway mark in the 543-seated Lok Sabha or lower house of the Indian Parliament.

India voted in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls on Monday.

PM Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party is eyeing to return to power for a third straight term.

It is a rare event in Indian political system which has been dominated by Congress over the years.

The Bharatiya Janata Party came to power in 2014 by rempvng the ten-year-old Congress rule.
