Raipur/IBNS: At least 14 Maoists were killed in two separate encounters with security forces in Chhattisgarh on Saturday morning, media reports said.

The encounters took place in Sukma and Bijapur districts. While 12 Maoists were killed in Sukma, two were gunned down in Bijapur.

According to officials, security forces launched a search operation in the Kistaram area of Sukma district following specific intelligence inputs about Maoist presence in the region.

As the security personnel entered the forested area, they reportedly came under fire from Maoists, triggering a fierce gun battle.

Senior Maoist leader Sachin Mangdu of the Konta Area Committee was among those killed in the Sukma encounter.

Security forces recovered AK-47 and INSAS rifles from the encounter site in Sukma.

In the Bijapur encounter, one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) and a 12-bore rifle were recovered from the spot, officials said.
