Boat capsizes in UP, 18 missing

Varanasi Aug 5 (IBNS): At least 18 people went missing as the overcrowded boat in which they were travelling capsized in the Ganga river at Varanasi district in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, said police.

The boat was carrying 40 people, reports said.

According to reports, 22 passengers managed  to swim safely out of the river following the mishap.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his sadness over the capsizing of a boat in Varanasi district.

"He prays for those missing in the unfortunate incident," the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement.

Modi won the Lok Sabha polls from Varanasi.
