Brown sugar worth Rs 3.14 crore seized in Manipur

Guwahati, May 17 (IBNS): Security forces have seized huge quantity of brown sugar worth more than Rs 3 crore in Manipur’s Moreh town along Indo-Myanmar border on Thursday. 

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, a combined team of Moreh commando, police and Moreh Battalion Assam Rifles conducted a search at one suspected house in Moreh Ward No 1 in Tengnoupal district and seized 55 packets of brown sugar which weighing around 796 grams worth around Rs 3.14 crore in total from the house.

The security personnel arrested an individual during the seizure but as he turned out to be a juvenile, he was handed over to Juvenile Police Officer of Moreh police, along with the seized drugs.

“Based on some specific information, a team of commando, police led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, Tengnoupal had conducted search at a specific house at Moreh Ward No 1. On searching at the specific house, we found 55 packets of brown sugar weighing around 796 grams. The approximate price of this brown sugar in international market is around Rs 3.14 crore,” a police official said.
