BRS president K T Rama Rao slams Modi govt for 'absolute silence' in horrifying Manipur violence

Hyderabad/IBNS/UNI: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working President and Telangana Minister K T Rama Rao (KTR) on Thursday alleged that the Union Government has been watching in absolute silence the horrifying violence in Manipur.

On Twitter, KTR said, "We Indians were raging against the Taliban when they were disrespecting children and women."

"Now in our own country, Kuki women being paraded naked and sexually assaulted by the Meitei mob in Manipur is a distressing and nauseous reminder of how barbarism has been normalised in new India !!, he tweeted.

"All this horrifying violence and complete breakdown of Law & Order while the Union government watches in absolute silence," the BRS working President alleged.

Where are you, PM Narendra Modi Ji and HM Amit Shah Ji, while every shred of dignity in Manipur is burning?, he questioned.

" Please set aside everything and use all your time and energy to #SaveManipur" , the Minister tweeted.

In a horrific incident, two women were paraded naked on the road by a group of men in Manipur and the video of the same was widely shared on social media drawing heavy condemnation and calls for action.

The two women were also gang-raped in a nearby field, a tribal organisation has alleged.

The incident occurred on May 4 in Kangpokpi district, some 35 km from the state capital Imphal, according to a statement by the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF).

A day before this on-camera horror, clashes broke out between the valley-majority Meitei and the hill-majority Kuki tribe over the Meiteis' demand for Scheduled Tribes (ST) status.
