BSF seizes 4 gold biscuits while being smuggled into India in Nadia

Kolkata, Aug 28 (IBNS): The personnel of Border Security Force (BSF) seized four gold biscuits weighing approximately 460 grams and having market value of Rs. 13, 80, 598 while being smuggled into India from Bangladesh on Tuesday.

A special operation was planned in general area of village Hathkhola under Chapra police station, Nadia on the basis of specific information received regarding such a crime from that area of BOP Mahakhola of 81 Bn under Sector Krishnanagar, read a government statement.

"At about 9.15 am, today, the BSF personnel observed suspicious movement of a person on motorcycle and while the personnel proceeded to stop the motorcycle, the rider increased speed and tried to escape. However, he lost his control over the bike and fell down on the road," it said.

Having fear of being caught, the suspect threw one bundle out of his pocket on the road and managed to escape leaving behind the bike.

The BSF personnel thoroughly searched the area and recovered those four gold biscuits.

The seized biscuits and bike were handed over to Chapra police station.

An FIR had been lodged against the owner of the bike-Atikur Rahman Mondal with the same police station.

It is to be noted that during the year 2018, South Bengal Frontier BSF apprehended six gold smugglers and seized 13.695 kg of gold of approximate value Rs 4,26,35,413.
