Building collapses due to heavy rain in Kolkata, 1 killed

Kolkata, May 23 (IBNS): Portion of an apartment collapsed at Dhakuria Panchanantala area in Kolkata due to heavy downpour on Monday afternoon which killed at least one person and left another injured, reports said.

According to reports, during heavy rainfall, one part of the four-storey government owned apartment collapsed.

One elderly resident of the apartment, Kamala Chatterjee, was killed in the accident. Another aged woman, who was identified as Sunita Devi Sahu, was seriously injured in the crash and is being treated in a nearby privately-run hospital.

Police force, Disaster Management Group (DMG) and Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and evacuated the entire apartment, where as many as 24 families live.

However, taking help of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), clearance process of the collapse portion is currently underway.
