Burari deaths: Delhi Police attempting to track 'godmen' based on call records
New Delhi, July 3 (IBNS): The police are trying to find the 'baba' who might be behind the death of 11 people of a family in Delhi.
A police officer told Hindustan Times on condition of anonymity that investigators have come across four possible numbers of occultists or godmen in the phones of the dead, and were following these leads.
The phones were reportedly kept in a cup board in the house, reports said.
“One of the godmen we are focusing on leads a group of devotees of a deity. Based on findings from the call records, we are also looking at the role of followers of another deity whose temple is located in Rajasthan,” the officer told the newspaper.
The post-mortem of all eleven members of the Bhatia family, who were found hanging at their Burari residence on Sunday, have been completed and initial probe suggests suicide as the cause of their deaths, media reports said on Monday.
Police now suspect that the family committed suicide in accordance with a religious practice to attain mass salvation.
No marks of strangulation or struggle were found on their bodies.
Even the 75-year-old elderly woman also committed suicide.
According to reports, she committed suicide with the help of a belt, which has been recovered by the police.
The relatives of the family are dismissing the mass suicide angle and suspect foul play.
They said that the Bhatia family was not so religious.
Ketan Nagpal, whose maternal grandmother was one of the deceased, said they never faced any financial crisis.
"They were not facing any financial issues and had not taken even a single loan. Everything was fine. Why would they kill themselves?" he was quoted as saying by News18.
The Delhi Police, probing the case, will also question the fiance of the woman in the family who was supposed to get married later this year.
Eleven members of the family were found dead at their residence in New Delhi on Sunday, police said.
According to reports, most of the deceased was found hanging from the ceiling of the residence.
They were even found blindfolded, gagged and hands tied behind the back.
The deceased included seven women, two men and two boys aged 15.
