Bypolls in Rajasthan, West Bengal: Voting begins

| | Jan 29, 2018, at 02:44 pm

Jaipur/Kolkata, Jan 29 (IBNS): Considered as crucial test for the ruling parties in both the states, polling is currently underway as voting for the Lok Sabha seats of Ajmer and Alwar and the Assembly seat of Mandalgarh in Rajasthan, as well as the Uluberia Lok Sabha constituency and Noapara Assembly seat in West Bengal started on Monday.

Polling started at around 8 am.

The result of the polls will be declared on Feb 1.

Campaigning in both the states ended on Saturday.

Polling became necessary after sitting MPs and MLAs passed away last year.

In West Bengal, the fight to win the seats is taking place between the ruling Trinamool Congress of Mamata Banerjee and the BJP.

Rajasthan will see Assembly polls later this year and hence Monday's polling is crucial for Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and  Rajasthan Congress chief Sachin Pilot.

Pilot had been campaigning aggressively for the past few days in Alwar and Ajmer.
