CAA controversy in apex court
New Delhi/UNI: Centre on Wednesday pleaded to the Supreme Court to transfer to itself all the petitions pending in various state High Courts on constitution validity of Citizenship Amendment Act which has ignited a heated controversy.
A Chief Justice of India S A Bobde-headed bench agreed to hear the Centre's plea, on January 10, Friday.
CJI Bobde told Solicitor General Tushar Mehta that the bench was "prima facie of the view" that the state High Courts should also be allowed to hear the pleas.
But finally, CJI agreed to hear on Friday Centre's petition seeking transfer of all pleas to Apex Court.
SG Mehta told the bench that the issue is sensitive and state High Courts may take different views on the CAA.
A batch of petitions have been filed before Apex Court challenging the constitutional validity of CAA.
