Ottawa, Apr 15 (IBNS) In the first standalone bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Canada in 42 years, Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the nation has the potential to be a key partner in every area of 'India's national development priority'.

"Canada has the potential to be a key partner in every area of India's national development priority," Modi said while addressing the media jointly with his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper.

"Prime Minister Harper and I are committed to establish a new framework for economic partnership," he said.

Speaking on uranium procurement agreement, he said: "The agreement on procurement of uranium from Canada for our civilian nuclear power plants launches a new era of bilateral cooperation."

"We in India felt Canada's pain when this city was struck by a senseless act of terrorism," Modi said on the shoot-out in the Canadian Parliament.

Modi flew to Canada after wrapping up his two-day Germany visit where he attempted to to attract investments for 'Make-in-India' programme.
