Guwahati, Mar 2 (IBNS) : On arrest of Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Home minister P Chidambaram by the CBI, Union Home minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the CBI is a credible investigating agency and the agency has done their job.

The Union Home Minister visited the state to inaugurate the 28th Barechahariya Bhaona festival at Jamugurihat in Sonitpur district.

Rajnath Singh had refused to further more comment into Karti Chidambaram arrest.

Former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's son Karti, who was arrested on Wednesday for his involvement in a money laundering case, has been sent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) custody for five days.

Karti will be produced in the court next on Mar 6.

The Union Home minister said violence in Assam has come to end as the law and order situation in the state has been improved compared to the past times.

"In 2014, I said that there is no place for violence in Assam and today I say that law and order situation in the state has been improved. Democracy is only run by discussions, not by guns," Rajnath Singh said.

He further urged the banned militant groups to come forward for discussions.

While inaugurating the 220-year-old drama festival held in the northern Assam district in every 5-6 years, the Union Home minister said he is delighted to attend the historic and traditional event and urged people of Assam to maintain peace and cultural harmony.

"This historic festival has showcased the rich culture of Assam," Rajnath Singh said.

Recalling Dr Bhupen Hazarika, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Phani Sarma, Rajnath Singh said that Dr Bhupen Hazarika was the great son of the entire country.
