New Delhi/IBNS: The massive spike in Covid-19 has forced India's central board for secondary education (CBSE) to cancel the scheduled examinations for class 10 and postpone for class 12.

The examinations for both the classes were scheduled to begin on May 4, two days after the election results of five states were to be declared.

For class 12 examinations, the situation will be reviewed on Jun 1 and revised dates will be announced thereafter.

The announcement has been made after India's education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank held a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CBSE officials.

India is witnessing the second wave of Covid-19 which has induced partial lockdowns in various states and stricter enforcement of restrictions in Maharashtra.

The country of 1.3 billion reported 1,84,372 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, marking a sharp rise in daily case count, as per data released by the Ministry of Health on Wednesday.

In the past 24 hours, 1,027 people died due to the highly infectious virus.
