Central Government is fully committed to ensure the sustainable growth and faster development of Eastern India, says Piyush Goyal

Kolkata, Oct 2 (IBNS): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Power, Mines, Coal and New & Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal said here on Sunday that every individual of the country is committed to keep the cities and surroundings clean and appealed all to take Swachh Bharat Mission as a national movement across the country and participate in it so that dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make India Open Defecation Free (ODF) by Oct 2, 2019 could be fulfilled.

He also urged all to share their photos of Swachh Bharat Mission with the Prime Minister by sending them on his app.

Speaking at the “115th Annual General Session” of the MCC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Goyal said, development of Eastern India including West Bengal, one of the largest coal-bearing states in the country, is very important for the development of the country and Central government is fully committed to ensure the sustainable growth and faster development of Eastern India.

The idea behind GST is to provide all the states across the country equal opportunity for sustainable growth and development. He appealed the people to pay their taxes honestly so that tax rates come down.

Speaking on the importance of this Gandhi Jayanti, Goyal said, the day is also important as India is ratifying the agreement on climate change in Paris today. The Minister said, we have to drastically cut our carbon dioxide emission, on the basis of the agreement.

Goyal expressed concern that we crossed the limit of carbon dioxide emission quota of upto Dec 31, 2016 in the first half of August, this year.

"We are committed to protecting the environment, and reducing the carbon intensity of our economy to 35 % by 2030. India is poised to achieve world’s largest expansion of renewable energy and get a capacity of 1 lakh 75 thousands MW of renewable energy by 2022," he added.

Speaking on the occasion, the President of MCCI, Manish Goenka said, "West Bengal is the 6th largest state in India with its broad customer base, rich mineral resources and large talent pool, has the potential to emerge as one of the leading states to drive the next phase of industrialization in the country."

The state is also strategically positioned for bilateral trade with Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar, he added and informed that the 3rd edition of Bengal Global Business Summit will be held from Jan 20-21, 2017.
