Chinese companies to be kept out of highway projects, MSME sector, says Union Minister Nitin Gadkari : Report
New Delhi/IBNS: After the ban on 59 Chinese apps, India has decided to bar Chinese companies from highway projects directly and through joint ventures, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said, reported the media.
Gadkari said the government will also ensure Chinese investors are not allowed in other sectors like Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.
“We will not give permission to joint ventures that have Chinese partners for road construction. We have taken a firm stand that if they (Chinese companies) come via joint venture in our country, we will not allow it,” Gadkari was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Underscoring the government's intention, Gadkari said foreign investments and joint ventures are welcome in the MSME sector, but Chinese investors will not be entertained.
Gadkari said the move is aimed towards achieving PM Modi’s vision of a “self-reliant India” or Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Wednesday welcomed the government's decision to ban 59 Chinese apps and said it is an opportunity for the Indians to develop their own apps and overcome the dependence on other nations for technology-related tools.
The government's decisions have come post the violent face off with China, in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed, almost two weeks ago at Ladakh's Galwan Valley.
