Guwahati, Oct 31 (IBNS): While some organisations of Barak Valley given a proposal to divide Assam into four parts as Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley over the Citizenship Amendment Bill row, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), an ally party of BJP-led Assam government on Wednesday refuted the proposal and said that it is not the solution.

MLA of West Guwahati assembly constituency and senior AGP leader Ramendra Narayan Kalita said that, his party will not support the proposal to divide Assam into four parts.

“It is not a solution. AGP and various organisations of the state have continued their protest against the Citizenship Bill. AGP will continue their protest remaining within the government,” Kalita said.

Earlier, the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) and its founder president Pradip Dutta Roy said that, Assam should be divided into four parts - Barak Valley, Bodoland, NC Hills Karbi Anglong and Kamatapur and it would be better if Barak Valley breaks away from the rest of Assam.

Over the Citizenship Bill row, Pradip Dutta Roy said that, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal’s dream of unity between Barak Valley and Brahmaputra Valley will remain a dream, while a section of people of the state are against it.

Massive protests are being held in Assam against the Citizenship Bill as it aims to grant Indian citizenship to the non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
