CITU suspends Lakshman Seth

| | May 16, 2014, at 12:58 am
Kolkata, May 15 (IBNS): Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Thursday suspended former Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Lakshman Seth for anti-organisational activities.
"The state committee of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has decided to suspend Lakshman Seth from  all elected posts for breaking the principles and organisational discipline under sections 20 (B) and 20 (C), " CITU General Secretary Deepak Dasgupta said in a statement.

Earlier, the CPI-M had  expelled Seth after he was accused of anti-party activities.

Seth, however, said he himself left the party.

"I left the Party on my own. There is no question of expelling me. I had informed the party in a letter on February 17 that I would not renew my membership. Yesterday, when two district (East Midnapore) party leaders came to me for renewal of my membership, I turned them down. This means I am not interested in remaining in the party. A decision to expel me after this is meaningless," he told The Telegraph newspaper.

The CPI-M decided to expel Seth after he praised Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee for her courage.

"I did not praise Mamata Banerjee. I only highlighted some of her achievements. Jungle Mahal has become trouble-free and peace has returned to the hills. I have also said her police sent people like me to jail by slapping false charges on us," Seth had said.

The CPI-M earlier  released a statement where they accused Seth of getting involved in serous anti-party activity.

"The state committee has taken the initiative to discipline and better the party organisation in East Midnapore district. In this scenario, Lakshman Seth,  a member of the district committee and district secretariat,   has got involved in serious anti-party activity and tried to tarnish the image of the party publicly. According to  the decision of the state secretariat, he has been expelled from the party under the clause 19/13 of the party constitution," the party's statement read.
