New Delhi, Mar 21 (IBNS) Police have registered a case of cheating and atrocities against scheduled castes and tribes against high profile Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury for allegedly taking bribe from an aspiring election candidate.

It has been alleged that Chowdhury promised an assembly ticket for the wife of Ramjee Naik, a local Congress leader in exchange for Rs. 1.10 crore.

Chowdhury, however, said that the allegations are "bizarre."

"The high court is following a process. I will fight it legally," she told NDTV.

The case was registered following an order from the Hyderabad High Court on a complaint by Naik's wife, B Kalavati.

She has alleged that the promised ticket for candidature was for the Wyra assembly seat in Khammam district.

She has  also alleged that her husband had died because he was under  the pressure of the debts they incurred to raise the money.

According to the  First Information Report, which was registered on March 16,  the bribe was paid on May 30, 2013.
