Congress, AAP finalise seat-sharing deals in Delhi, Gujarat, Goa: Reports

| @indiablooms | Feb 24, 2024, at 02:32 am

New Delhi: The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, who earlier this week delivered the INDIA alliance's first electoral win in the Chandigarh mayoral poll, have finalised seat-share deals for Lok Sabha polls in Delhi, Gujarat, Goa, and Haryana, media reports said on Friday.

The details are yet to be revealed at a press conference, but the INDIA bloc members are understood to have agreed on a four-three split of Delhi's seven seats, NDTV quoting sources said.

As per reports, the AAP will field candidates from East, West, and South Delhi, in addition to New Delhi, while Congress will contest from North West and North East Delhi, and Chandi Chowk.

This development indicates progress for the struggling INDIA bloc, formed last year with the aim of defeating the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

AAP and Congress have not negotiated on any seat in Punjab. Earlier Punjab CM Bahgwant Mann said his party would go alone in Punjab.

In Uttar Pradesh, Congress has reached an understanding on 17 seats with the Samajwadi Party of Uttar Pradesh's 80 seats, the report said.

The deal comes after speculations that the two parties may end up without any seat-sharing deal.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh earlier in the day said talks with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress are still on in Bengal.

The Congress is holding discussions with the INDIA alliance partners in West Bengal and Jammu and Kashmir.  Moreover, a final decision has been taken on alliance with the NCP and Shiv Sena Uddhav Thackeray in Maharashtra.

On January 24, Banerjee announced that her party has no truck with the I.N.D.I.A bloc and would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone in the state following failed seat adjustment talks with the Congress.
