Congress' lies can't hide their misdeeds: Modi on row over Amit Shah's Ambedkar comment

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lashed out at the Congress for allegedly spreading lies rallying behind union home minister Amit Shah whose comment on Father of the Constitution BR Ambedkar at parliament irked the country's primary opposition party.

Congress has put up an X post where Shah was heard saying, "It has become a fashion to take the name of Ambedkar. If they (Congress) had taken the name of God that many times, they would have been in heaven for the next seven lives."

Posting the clip, the Congress said, "Amit Shah has said something very disgusting. This shows that the BJP and RSS leaders have a lot of hatred for Baba Saheb Ambedkar. The hatred is such that they are even irritated by his name.

"These are the same people whose ancestors used to burn the effigies of Baba Saheb, who themselves used to talk about changing the constitution given by Baba Saheb. When the public taught them a lesson, now they have become irritated with those who take the name of Baba Saheb. Shameful! Amit Shah should apologize to the country for this."

In an all-out attack on his archrival Congress, Modi posted on X, "If the Congress and its rotten ecosystem think their malicious lies can hide their misdeeds of several years, especially their insult towards Dr. Ambedkar, they are gravely mistaken!

"The people of India have seen time and again how one Party, led by one dynasty, has indulged in every possible dirty trick to obliterate the legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and humiliate the SC/ST communities."

The PM, who is the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s de facto supreme leader, said in another post, "In Parliament, HM @AmitShah-Ji exposed the Congress’ dark history of insulting Dr. Ambedkar and ignoring the SC/ST Communities. They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics! Sadly, for them, people know the truth!"

BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya posted on X alleging the Congress shared an edited video on social media to "spread lies".

In the video shared by Malviya, Shah was heard saying, "Why did Ambedkar resign from the first cabinet of the country? Ambedkar repeatedly said he was not happy with the treatment given to the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, not in agreement with the government's foreign policy and Article 370. That is why he wanted to resign. He was assured but the promise was not fulfilled. So he resigned out of ignorance."

"B.C. Roy had written a letter to Pandit Nehru that what will happen if eminents like Rajaji and Ambedkar leave the cabinet? In response, Nehru-ji had said Rajaji's exit will cause a bit of loss but Ambedkar quitting won't weaken the cabinet," the BJP veteran said.
