Congress-NCP-Sena move to Supreme Court against Maharashtra Guv appointing Fadnavis as CM

New Delhi/UNI/IBNS: The Congress, NCP and the Shiv Sena on Saturday filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking quashing of Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari's decision to appoint Devendra Fadnavis as the Chief Minister and requested to order for a Floor Test in the Assembly on Sunday itself.

''We have requested the Supreme Court to conduct an urgent hearing tonight itself, like it was done in the case of Karnataka, when an illegitimate BJP government was sworn-in illegally by the Governor there. Here also, a contract has been taken to murder democracy by BJP in an illegal, unconstitutional and illegitimate fashion,'' said AICC Communication In-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala.

The Congress spokesperson, who has also reached the Supreme Court with the counsel to file the petition, said they requested the apex court for a hearing on Sunday, ''So that the majority could be proved on the Floor of the House and the hollowness of BJP and Ajit Pawar's claim can be exposed.''

The Congress, Sena and the NCP have decided to approach the SC, hours after the swearing-in ceremony took place at Raj Bhavan in Maharashtra on early Saturday morning.

In their petition, the parties pointed out the Supreme Court's 2018 order in the Karnataka Assembly case, where the court had directed the Governor to hold a Floor Test within 48 hours to prove majority of BS Yediyurappa-led government.

Maharashtra wakes up under BJP rule

NCP leader Ajit Pawar stunned the Shiv Sena on early Saturday morning by allying with the BJP to form the next state government in Maharashtra.

After Koshyari revoked the Presidential rule in the state early morning, BJP's Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister for the second time with Ajit as his deputy after the NCP leader claimed 35 of his party MLAs have supported the saffron outfit.

Though the tally of BJP-NCP is still five short of the majority mark (145), the saffron party is likely to cobble up the number with the support of the Independent MLAs.

All the developments on the western soil took place barely a few hours after Sharad Pawar last night informed his party, Shiv Sena and Congress will form the Maharashtra government with Sena supremo Uddhav Thackeray as the Chief Minister.
