Congress President Sonia Gandhi condemns Uri attack

New Delhi. Sept 18 (IBNS): Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday condemned the militant attack at 12 Brigade Army camp in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir which left at least 17 jawans martyred.

"Congress President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi has expressed shock and deep distress over the martyrdom of Indian Soldiers in the dastardly," the Congress party tweeted.

"terrorist attack in Uri. Describing the cowardly terror attack as a deplorable affront on our national conscience expressed the hope that the perpetrators of this dastardly attack & the forces behind them will be severely dealt with & brought to book," the Congress said quoting Gandhi.


The state of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday witnessed one of the deadliest attacks in a decade's time when four heavily armed terrorists sneaked into the 12 Brigade Army camp in Uri sector, leaving 17 jawans killed.

The terror strike took place 100 kms from state capital Srinagar, in North Kashmir Uri town near the line of control.

Hundreds of army jawans were sleeping in tents when terrorists threw grenades and started heavy firing on tents, leaving 17 army personnel dead.
