'Corona is over, Mamata Banerjee calling lockdown to stop BJP': Dilip Ghosh

| @indiablooms | Sep 11, 2020, at 07:21 pm

Kolkata/IBNS: In another weird statement, West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Dilip Ghosh has said the Novel Coronavirus pandemic is over at a time the country is adding over 90,000 Covid-19 cases on a daily-basis.

In a video, which went viral on social media, Ghosh was heard saying West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was calling the lockdown only to stop the BJP's meetings and rallies.

"Corona is over. Didimoni (Mamata Banerjee) is only pretending and calling lockdown so that BJP is not able to organise meetings and rallies," the state BJP chief was heard saying in the video, which has also been shared by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on its social media handles.

Reacting to Ghosh's statement, the TMC has put up a tweet which read, "While the whole of India is still fighting tirelessly against the deadly #COVID19 pandemic, Dilip Ghosh announces "Corona is Over"! Evidently, he values vote bank politics much above human lives. The wit of West Bengal BJP President is horrifying!"

In West Bengal, 3,112 fresh Covid-19 cases and 41 deaths related to the virus were reported on Thursday.

The state is witnessing bi-weekly lockdown since August to stem the spread of the contagion.

Ghosh's comment came at a time Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also from the BJP, is repeatedly asking common people to adhere to the Covid-19 norms like wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing.

Ironically, Ghosh-led BJP had earlier unsparingly attacked the ruling dispensation over its handling of Covid-19 situation, accusing the CM of fudging the data of infections in the state of over nine crore people.
