Coronavirus cases in Mumbai crosses 2000-mark, death toll mounts to 116

Mumbai/IBNS: The total number of Coronavirus cases in Mumbai crossed the 2000-mark to touch 2,043 with 107 new patients testing positive for the deadly COVID-19.

At least 26 cases have been reported from the congested Dharavi, which is Asia's largest urban slum with 8 lakhs residents.

The total number of Coronavirus cases in Dharavi alone is 86 including nine deaths.

Mumbai, with a population of 1.2 crores, has registered 1000 new cases in just six days.

With three new patients succumbing to Coronavirus since Wednesday, the country's financial capital has a total death toll of 116.

Mumbai alone has 15 percent of the country's total coronavirus cases.

Maharashtra is the worst hit-state in India with 2919 cases of COVID-19 and 187 deaths. It is followed by Delhi with 1578 cases and 32 deaths.

Meanwhile, the total Coronavirus cases in India is up by 826 to reach the toll of 12,759. About 420 people died as the country of 1.3 billion people entered the second phase of lockdown to combat the virus, which had its outbreak initially in China's Wuhan and went on to create a pandemic situation across the world.

About 1,515 patients have recovered while the country still has 10,824 active cases.

Worldwide, the total infection toll stands at 2,090,110 including 139,469 deaths across 185 countries. 

The United States not only has the world's highest Coronavirus deaths but the toll has crossed over 30,000, a tally by the John Hopkins University recorded on Thursday.

The live tracker of JHU reported 31,002 deaths and 640,014 total affected due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
