COVID-19 surge: Top US health body asks citizens to avoid travelling to India

Washington: The top US health body has asked its citizens from travelling to India amid rise in COVID-19 cases.

"Travelers should avoid all travel to India," the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on its website.

"Because of the current situation in  India even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants and should avoid all travel to India," read the statement.

"If you must travel to India, get fully vaccinated before travel. All travelers should wear a mask, stay 6 feet from others, avoid crowds, and wash their hands," it said.

India is witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent times.
