COVID-19: West Bengal sees biggest one-day spike of 2436 cases, 34 more fatalities reported

Kolkata/IBNS: With the highest single-day spike of 2436 infections, the total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in West Bengal has reached 51757, including 18450 active cases, 1255 deaths and 31656 discharges, reports said on Thursday.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, in the last 24 hours, 34 more deaths were registered in Kolkata (19), North 24 Parganas (06), Howrah (03), South 24 Parganas (02), Hooghly (01), Wast Medinipur (01), East Burdwan (01) and Birbhum (01) districts of Bengal whilena record number of 2006 Covid-19 patients were discharged from different health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 61.16 per cent from 60.11 per cent.

State health officials said that state capital Kolkata and its adjoining district, North 24 Parganas, have been continuing to report the highest number of fresh Covid-19 cases as 1340 of the total 2436 infections were recorded in these two districts in the past 24 hours (Kolkata- 795 and North 24 Parganas- 545).

Officials reported that as on Thursday (July 23) evening, West Bengal had 958 broad-based containment zones, out of which 28 were in Kolkata.   

West Bengal has tested 7,58,027 samples till date with 14558 tests conducted in 56 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.

Presently, 3423 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 32140 people are under home surveillance in the state.
