Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi government has extended the lockdown imposed to control spiralling coronavirus infection till June 7 while allowing the construction and manufacturing sectors to resume work with restrictions.

The lockdown was set to end on Monday though Chief Minsiter Arvind Kejriwal had spoken about phase-wise unlocking for the city which has been ravaged by the second wave of coronavirus in the past two months.

The establishments opening up for business will have to strictly adhere to coronavirus precautions and ensure social distancing by working in shifts. Random COVID-19 tests by the authorities will be held to prevent the virus from spreading.

The fresh coronavirus cases in the national capital on Saturday dropped to 956, the lowest in the last two months of devastating surge. However, 122 people also died from the infection.

The good news is the dipping positivity rate that fell below 2 per cent at 1.19 per cent from a peak of 36 per cent in March.

The Covid-19 numbers started soaring from March-end and in the last two months this is the first time that the number of fresh cases slided below 1,000.

On Friday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced phased unlocking while warning that the unlock process will have to be stopped if there is an increase in infection spread.
