CPI(M)-led LDF registers big win over Congress-led UDF in Kerala civic polls
Thiruvananthapuram/IBNS: The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) is all set to register a big win in Kerala's civic polls, grabbing most of the gram panchayats and district panchayats, despite being surrounded with corruption charges.
Media reports said LDF bagged 514 of the 941 gram panchayats, four of the six corporations, 10 of the 14 district panchayats and 112 of the 152 block panchayats. While the LDF is leading in 514 gram panchayats, the UDF is leading in 375 and the NDA in 23, an Indian Express report said.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has termed his alliance's resounding victory as befitting reply of the people of Kerala to the centre which is trying to wreck the state with its investigative agencies.

LDF's victory just ahead of the crucial 2021 assembly polls does not augur well for Congress which has lost a lot of ground gained with its sweeping win in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
Counting of votes was done for 21,893 wards of 1,200 local bodies, including six corporations, 941 village panchayats, 14 district panchayats, and 87 municipalities, which went to polls on December 8, 10 and 14 respectively and the overall voter turnout was 78.62 per cent.
In the current polls, the LDF made inroads into UDF vote bank particularly in Thrissur, Ernakulam and Kottayam districts, indicating that the Congress-led alliance failed to cash in on the corruption charges against the ruling alliance.
