Cyclone Fani: Flight operations resume at Bhubaneswar, Kolkata airports

“After the devastating effects of CycloneFani, all foreign objects and debris from the operational area have been cleaned up and ready to resume normal commercial flight operations since 1230 IST today,” the Airports Authority of India said in a tweet.

Another tweet from the Kolkata airport said after the weather update, flight operations resumed at the airport from 0800 hrs today and advised people to check changes in timings.

“Flight operations resumes at Kolkata Airport. Air India AI 743 to Agartala is the first departure from Kolkata at 0957 hrs. G8 101 from Delhi is the first flight to land in Kolkata at around 1010 hrs,” the airport added.

Besides, all affected airports in the Northeast region, including Guwahati, have also been opened for flights.

AAI Regional Executive Director for the North East region tweeted, “All the airports at AAI NER are opened, however due to bad weather at other stations, airports, the connecting flights are cancelled. Passengers are requested to check with concerned airlines for their flight schedules.”

He said a total of 59 flights to the Guwahati airport have been cancelled.

On May 3, the cyclone Fani had passed through Odisha and damaged the passenger terminal building at Bhubaneswar airport, particularly the rooftop and facades. The rooftop of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower has also blown away, affecting very high frequency antennas at the rooftop.

The Government had closed the Bhubneswar and Kolkata airports due to cyclone Fani.
