Cyclone Fani: South Central Railway loses around Rs 2.97 Crore
Hyderabad, May 11 (UNI) The South Central Railway (SCR) has incurred a revenue loss of about Rs 2.97 crore due to severe cyclonic storm 'FANI'.
A total of 137 trains have been affected during the cyclonic storm period and several trains had to be either partially cancelled or cancelled or diverted during the cyclonic period to provide safety to the passengers and train operations, SCR Chief Public Relations Officer (PRO) Ch Rakesh said in a release here on Friday night.
A total of 120 trains have been fully cancelled and 40,390 passengers have been given full refund of the fare of about Rs. 2.93 crore while nine trains have been partially cancelled and 5 trains were run on diverted route which resulted in cancellation of tickets by 554 passengers and an amount of about Rs. 3.44 lakh have been refunded, the release added.
However, South Central Railway swung into action immediately after the Cyclonic storm receded and it has made arrangements to run three special trains for the convenience of the passengers stranded at important stations.
SCR had run three special trains between Secunderabad, Bhubaneswar, Vijayawada – Howrah
and Secunderabad- Howrah on May 4 and 5, respectively by which around 3,043 stranded passengers were able to travel to their destinations. SCR earned an amount of Rs 20.90 lakh by running the special trains, the release added.
