Cyclone Gaja to make landfall in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, state on high alert

Chennai, Nov 13 (IBNS): Cyclone Gaja, which was some 730 km away from the Chennai coast, is likely to make a landfall between Nagapattinam and Chennai on Thursday, media reports said.

As a result, Tamil Nadu is all set to witness light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday.

The Cyclone is also expected to cause thunder showers at many places in the area on Wednesday.

The IMD has advised fishermen to not venture out to the sea in the next 12 hours.

The wind speed is expected to be 35kmph to 50kmph.

Fishermen out at the deep sea has been advised to return back by Tuesday.

The warning also said fisherman should not venture out to central and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal from Nov 11 to 13.

The southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal should not be ventured Nov 12 onward.

Tamil Nadu and Puducherry governments are taking necessary steps in the wake of the Cyclonic alert.

The Cuddalore district administration has deployed a 26-member team comprising Coast Guards and home guards to combat the cyclonic effect.
