Vizag, Oct 11 (IBNS): At least eight people have lost their lives as "very severe" cyclonic storm 'Titli' caused widespread damage in Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Thursday, media reports said.

While a 62-year-old woman died at Gudivada Agraharam village after an uprooted tree fell on her, another 55-year-old man died in a house collapse at Rotanasa village in Srikakulam district, said reports.

The cyclone uprooted trees and electric poles.  'Titli' which intensified into a "very severe cyclonic storm" over the Bay of Bengal also triggered  heavy rain and strong winds.

Over three lakh people in Odisha's five coastal districts were moved to safety as a precautionary measure. The disaster management authority has asked people to stay away from low-lying beaches and other locations which may be swept by high tides or storm waves.

'Titli' made a landfall near Gopalpur area in Odisha,  Indian weather officials said.

The landfall started early on Thursday morning.

School and colleges in the cyclone-hit area have remained closed.

Train and flight services have been hit badly in Odisha.
