New Delhi/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah Monday assured all possible assistance to the Tamil Nadu government as Cyclone Michaung caused havoc in Chennai and the northern part of the state.

Shah spoke to state Chief Minister M K Stalin and took stock of the measures taken to tackle the cyclone. He also spoke to Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and enquired about the situation.

In a post on 'X', Shah said: "Spoke to Tamil Nadu CM Shri @mkstalin Ji and Puducherry CM Shri N. Rangasamy Ji. Took stock of the measures taken to tackle the challenging weather conditions caused by the Cyclone Michaung."

"Assured them of all the necessary assistance from the Modi Government to secure lives. Adequate deployment of the NDRF has already been made and additional teams are ready for further assistance," he added.

Life was thrown out of gear in Chennai and its neighbouring districts on Monday as relentless rains pounded various parts leading to inundation and flooding.

The Tamil Nadu government has declared a public holiday on Tuesday for all educational institutions, government and private offices, financial institutions and banks in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts.

According to IMD the cyclonic storm Michuang is to cross the south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam close to Bapatla during the forenoon of 5 Dec as 'severe cyclonic storm.

As many as 12 relief camps have been set up for the rain-affected victims in Mogaltru and Narasapuram mandals of the West Godavari district as the cyclone is likely to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam, close to Bapatla on Tuesday.
