D-Company rattled? Dhurandhar’s underworld portrayal sparks controversy

Reports surrounding the Bollywood spy thriller Dhurandhar have triggered controversy, with NDTV's sources claiming that its portrayal of underworld figures has unsettled elements linked to organised crime networks.

The Ranveer Singh-starrer, which has been described as a two-part blockbuster, features a character named Bade Saheb who shows a striking resemblance to alleged underworld figure Dawood Ibrahim.

According to unnamed sources cited in NDTV reports, this depiction has caused concern among individuals linked to his network, often referred to as the D-Company.

Claims of discontent and ground activity

Some reports allege that following the film’s success, attempts were made to activate existing networks in Mumbai. However, these claims have not been independently verified by authorities.

NDTV's sources further suggested that efforts were underway to recruit individuals for unspecified operations, with claims of involvement from various groups.

These assertions also include references to training and logistical support, but no official confirmation has been provided by law enforcement agencies.

Authorities and security context

The reports also link the situation to broader concerns about ongoing surveillance and prevention of potential security threats. However, officials have not publicly confirmed any direct connection between the film and alleged operational activity.

Indian security agencies have in the past monitored activities related to organised crime and cross-border networks, including those involving the Inter-Services Intelligence. Still, the latest claims remain part of unverified reporting.

Meanwhile, Dhurandhar continues to draw attention for its portrayal of underworld-inspired characters and its cinematic depiction of organised crime.

The filmmakers have not issued any official response regarding the reported controversy.
