Dadri lynching : Forensic test proves the meat found in Akhlaq's house was mutton, not beef

New Delhi, Oct 9 (IBNS) In a new twist to the Dadri lynching incident, forensic test has reportedly found that the meat collected from victim Mohammad Akhlaq's house was mutton and not beef.

Media reports said on Friday that  police had sent the meat samples to Mathura for testing on September 28 and it has now been confirmed that it was mutton and not beef.

Akhalaq, a 50-year-old local resident and his son were severely beaten up by a mob that alleged that they had slaughtered a calf and eaten the beef in their home. While Akhlaq died, his son was in a serious condition. The September 28 incident has triggered a huge outcry across the country.

A report sent by the Uttar Pradesh government to the Union  Home Ministry said Akhlaq and his son Danish were attacked by some unidentified people over unconfirmed allegations of having consumed "pratibandhit pashu ka maans" (meat of an animal banned from slaughter).

As the opposition had been crying hoarse demanding a statement from the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi broke his silence on the gruesome murder and said the fight should be against poverty and not against each other.

"Hindus and Muslims should work together to fight poverty and not against each other. The country has to stay united. Only communal harmony and brotherhood will take the nation forward," said Modi while addressing an election rally in Bihar's Nawada.
