Dalai Lama calls Bihar's alcohol ban move a ‘good decision’

| | Jan 11, 2017, at 11:41 pm
Patna, Jan 11 (TheBIharPost/IBNS): Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has described the liquor ban as a “good decision” taken by the Bihar government.

He made this observation while addressing Buddhist devotees during the Kalchakra puja being organized at Bodh Gaya. More than 200,000 Buddhists from over 80 countries are attending the Kalchakra puja.

“Drinking is not good. Alcohol is the root-cause of all problems,” the spiritual leader said and reminded his devotees how Buddha had said consumption of even a drop of alcohol is “sin”.

He said Tibetans don’t drink much but people from other foreign countries indeed do that.

“If possible please given up drinking,” he appealed.

Last week, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised Bihar chief minister for imposing total prohibition in the state and asked people to back this daring ‘reformative’ move.

The Bihar state government has planned to form world’s longest human chain on Jan 21 to promote alcohol ban in the state.

Quite all parties, including Modi’s BJP which had been quite critical of the existing liquor laws has announced to participate in the human chain programme except Hindustani Awam Morcha headed by former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi.
