"Defend land bill, bust the opposition's myths " : Modi tells MPs

New Delhi, Feb 24 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed all the BJP MPs to aggressively defend all the ordinances and not get affected by the opposition to the land bill.

"It's a party of Deen Dayal Upadhyay. No way that we can act against the interests of poor farmers. Don't be affected by Opposition's opposition to bills. We must do our work well," he said on Tuesday while speaking at the irst BJP Parliamentary Party meeting of the Budget session.

"Amendments to Land Acquisition Bill are based on suggestions by Congress-ruled states. The government will not be on backfoot on it, " he said.

The government on Tuesday introduced the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill 2015 for proposed changes in rules for land acquisition in the Lower House of the Parliament.

Soon after the Bill was introduced, the Congress raised strong opposition and staged a walkout protesting against the move.

According to majority of Oppositions, the Bill was against the farmers' prospects.

Terming the Bill as 'anti-farmer', Congress MP Ashwani Kumar said, "The opposition is united against the Land Acquisition Bill. We have problems with various sections of the Bill and it will not help the common man or farmers."

The Trinamool Congress and the Left also raised their voice against the bill.

Alleging that the government was not taking the opposition on board on the bill,
Samajwadi Party (SP) supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav said  his party would protest against it.
