Delhi Chief Secretary assault: Court rejects plea for MLAs' police custody

New Delhi, Feb 21 (IBNS): A Delhi court on Wednesday rejected the petition of police for custodial interrogation of Aam Aadmi Party's MLA  Amanatullah Khan and Prakash Jarwal in connection with the alleged manhandling case of Delhi Chief Secretary Anshu Prakash in the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, media reports said.

The plea was dismissed on the grounds that the two legislators were ready to cooperate with police.

The two MLAs were produced at the court amid tight security.

Amanatullah Khan on Wednesday surrendered before Delhi Police, a day after Prakash Jarwal was arrested.

Khan, who surrendered in the Jamia Nagar Police Station, was  taken to Civil Lines police station.

He reportedly said, "I have not done anything wrong."

Reports quoted DCP Madhur Verma as saying that Amanatullah Khan was detained at around 11.30 am in connection with the investigation of case regarding the assault on the Chief Secretary.

On the basis of Prakash's complaint, the Delhi Police had registered an FIR against Khan and Jarwal.

According to the FIR, various sections under IPC have been slapped against Amanatullah Khan.

The alleged assault occurred during a meeting at  Kejriwal's Civil Lines residence.

Meanwhile, AAP  leaders Sanjay Singh and Ashutosh during a press conference have said, "We are being hounded".

"Delhi Chief Secretary says he was beaten by AAP MLAs. There is no proof that he was beaten...Whenever there is a major issue going on in the country, Aam Aadmi Party becomes the soft target," Singh said while talking about the Nirav Modi and Punjab National Bank scandal.
