Delhi Congress unanimously opposed to alliance with AAP: Rahul Gandhi
New Delhi. Mar 7 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said it was the Delhi unit of his outfit which opposed to an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
When asked about the alliance, Gandhi said: "Our Delhi unit of Congress unanimously opposed to an alliance."
However, the Congress chief said his party will have a tie-up with Janata Dal (Secular) in Karnataka and DMK in Tamil Nadu.
Gandhi's comment came days after state unit chief Sheila Dikshit said no to any alliance despite Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal's push for an alliance to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Reportedly, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo, Mamata Banerjee, played a role in convincing the two parties to sit across the table for an alliance, particularly after the airstrike in Balakot.
Will Congress tie up with Left in West Bengal?
In West Bengal, however, the Congress-Left alliance is becoming unlikely for now as the two parties failed to come to an understanding.
While CPI-M wants to field its candidate in two Lok Sabha seats- Raiganj and Murshidabad- which were won by the Left party, Congress disagrees.
West Bengal Congress wants to hold both Raiganj and Murshidabad seats which are considered to be its bastions despite defeats in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
Congress had won just four out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in 2014.
