Demonetization: Banned currency notes worth 1.6 cr recovered in West Bengal, 4 held

Kolkata, Nov 13 (IBNS): Police on Saturday midnight booked at least four persons and seized banned Rs 1000 notes worth 1 crore 60 lakh from their possessions in Itahar in West Bengal's North Dinajpur district, officials said.

According to reports, during checking on National Highway 34 under Itahar Police Station limits, police stopped a suspicious car (WB 24K 7900) and recovered a huge number of banned notes.

Four passengers of the vehicle- Manab Barman, Sanjay Barman, Madan Chandra Sarkar and Sadhan Roy- were arrested.

"Policemen from Itahar Police Station seized a vehicle, which was going towards Raiganj from Kolkata, during naka checks on Saturday midnight and recovered banned Rs 1000 notes worth 1.6 crore from the car," North Dinajpur SP Amit Kumar Bharat Rathod told IBNS.

"We have arrested four passengers, including the driver, of the car and they are being interrogated," Rathod added.
