The East Turkistan National Movement (ETNM), a US-based non-profit advocacy group, will demonstrate outside the White House in Washington DC, on Oct 12 to mark 76 years since the Chinese invasion of East Turkistan in 1949.

The organisers said the event will be held between 1 pm to 3 pm.

Sharing details about the event, the group said on X: "October 12 marks 76 years since China’s invasion of East Turkistan, launching a campaign of colonization, occupation, and genocide that continues today."

"Join us to demand justice, freedom, and accountability," the X post said.

ETNAM has also been pushing for a resolution for several years to formally recognize East Turkistan as a country occupied by China.

East Turkistan, like Tibet, was an independent country that was invaded and occupied by China in late 1949, the group earlier claimed.

The independent East Turkistan Republic was overthrown on December 22, 1949, making East Turkistan a country occupied by China.
