EC issues notice to Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, Jan 17 (IBNS) In a trouble to Arvind Kejriwal ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, the Election Commission of India on Saturday issued a notice to the Aad Aami Party (AAP) supremo for violating the Model Code of Conduct during a press conference where he had targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said it was attempting to incite communal violence in the national capital.


The EC directed the leader  to respond to the showcause by  by 3.00 pm on Jan 20.

" AND whereas, Sh. Satish Upadhyay has also alleged that in the speech made by you in the said press conference you have stated that BJP is trying to incite communal violence in Delhi and has spread communal violence in Trilokpuri & Nandnagri and is also trying to do so in Nangloi & Bawana and is also responsible for attacks on churches in Delhi and thus has violated the provisions of Model Code of Conduct by creating mutual hatred, discord and tension between different communities and people of Delhi," read the notice issued against the AAP chief.

"Whereas, the Commission is prima-facie, of the view that by making the aforesaid statement mentioned inpara 6 herein above, you have violated the provision of sub-para (1) of Para I of Model Code of Conduct," read the notice.

"Now, therefore, you are hereby called upon to explain by 3.00 PM on 20.01.2015 as to why action should not be taken against you for aforesaid violation of Model Code of Conduct, failing which the Election Commission of India shall take a decision without any further reference to you," it said.

The Delhi unit of the BJP on Thursday sent legal notice to Kejriwal for making allegations against Satish Upadhyay that  he had a nexus with power distribution company BSES.

Kejriwal on Wednesday alleged that there was a nexus between Delhi power companies and the Delhi BJP chief.

He had claimed that Upadhyay's firms were installing and repairing electricity meters for discoms in the national capital.

He had accused the BJP of inciting communal violence in the Delhi.
