ED summons seven Bengal IPS officials in coal scam

New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday summoned seven senior IPS officials with the Bengal cadre in connection with its ongoing probe into a busted illegal coal mining and smuggling scam, officials said.

According to sources in the Central economic probe agency, notices have been served to seven IPS officers, including Gyanwant Singh (ADG & IGP, WB CID), Koteswara Rao (SP-HQ, ACB, WB), S. Selvamurugan (SP, Purulia), Shyam Singh (DIG, Midnapore Range), Rajeev Mishra (ADG & IGP, Planning,  WB), Sukesh Kumar Jain (OCW, WBPD), and Tathagata Basu (SP, WBPRB).

"Koteswara Rao, S. Selvamurugan, Shyam Singh, Rajeev Mishra, Sukesh Jain, Gyanwant Singh and Tathagata Basu have been asked to appear for interrogation on July 26, July 28, July 30, August 2, August 4, August 5 and August 6 respectively," an ED official said.

Earlier in May, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had quizzed ADG CID, Gyanwant Singh, in connection with the same case.

Besides CBI and ED, state Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is also probing into the recently-unearthed Bengal-based illegal coal mining and smuggling scam.
