Election for lone Pondy Rajya Sabha seat to be held on Oct 4

Puducherry/UNI: Election to fill a lone vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Puducherry will be held on October 4.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) in a notification issued on Thursday said that the tenure of the sitting member Gokula Krishnan will come to an end on October 6-2021.

The notification for the election will be issued on September 15 and the last date of filing nominations will be September 22. Scrutiny will be held on September 23 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations will be September 27.

Election will be held from 0900 hrs to 1600 hrs on October 4 and the votes will be counted at 1700 hrs on the same day.The election process will be completed before October 6.

It may be noted that Gokula Krishnan of the AIADMK is holding the post now and presently the N R Congress led NDA government is in power in the union territory.

BJP is trying to secure the seat for the party from the N R Congress and the latter is not in a mood to part with it .

In the 30 member territorial assembly, N R Congress got a strength of 10, its ally BJP 6 (sans three nominated members). DMK got 6 members,Congress 2 and Independents 6(three independents are supporting BJP and the other three supporting opposition).
