Mumbai/IBNS: Thirty-six flamingos were killed after they were hit by an Emirates flight in the Laxmi Nagar area of Pantnagar in Mumbai's Ghatkopar on Monday night, media reports said.

The birds were hit upon arrival of the flight at around 9:18 pm.

The flight was hit but landed safely at the airport.

A search has been launched to check whether any more flamingos were killed.

Prashant Bahadure, range forest officer of the mangrove protection cell, said as quoted by Hindustan Times, "I went to the airport, but they didn’t allow me entry. The airport authorities have told us these flamingos were hit by an Emirates flight.

"We got a call from the local residents and the incident may have happened between 8.40 pm to 8.50 pm and our team was on spot at 9.15 pm."

The Mangrove Protection Cell was informed by the airport authorities after the birds were hit by the flight.
