Encounter breaks between militants and security forces in South Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 18 (IBNS): A gunfight broke out between security forces and militants at Batmuran area of Wanpora in South Kashmir's Shopian district on Monday evening.

Official sources said that a joint team of  44RR and SOG launched a cordon-and- search operation at Batmuraan following specific inputs about the presence of some militants.

As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off an gunfight.

When reports last came in the intermittent firing was going on.
